Monanabi Shaikh, aged 75, is a prominent figure in Vadaji Rahadi Village, Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. For four decades, she and her husband have lived in the village. Despite her age, Monanabi frequently visits her neighbors, inquiring about their eye and general check-ups. This simple gesture has made her a crucial link in guaranteeing that all villagers can receive eye health care and prompt treatment.

Monanabi's actions are influenced by her own experience of battling a cataract and struggling with poor eyesight while working as a farm labourer. A timely eye health intervention enabled at no cost helped Monanabi to get back to work and become independent again. Despite not paying anything for the surgery or the transportation, she was pleasantly surprised with the exceptional services at the Vision Centre and hospital. This led to her becoming an ambassador in her village to raise awareness about eye health. Thanks to her efforts, several people from her village have visited the Vision Centre and some have undergone surgeries, particularly women from her community.

Monanabi goes beyond raising awareness; she actively follows up on each referral by contacting the optometrist at the Vision Centre. She takes it a step further by collecting the optometrist's recommendations and following up with the patients to address any concerns. Her dedication is valued by the Vision Centre team for streamlining their work and increasing patient visits.
