At 61-years-old, Dachinamurthy runs a vegetable shop near the Perambakkam bus stand (Tamilnadu) for many years now. He would source his stocks from the Koyembedu wholesale market 45 kms. away and sell them at his shop. |

Sadly, he developed cataract after which his vision started to deteriorate. Soon he had to pay someone just to accompany him to the vegetable market. This meant spending more money than he was actually making, forcing him to shutdown his business. To make matters worse, he had a bad fall which restricted his mobility for about a year and half. Matters worsened when his diabetes prevented him from undergoing cataract removal surgery. |

Over time, Krishna, the village volunteer and retired school teacher managed to motivate Dachinamurthy to go to the outreach camp at Perambakkam. The camp was conducted by SNJCOC, Chennai. Krishna also advised Dachinamurthy to work on reducing his bloog sugar levels. |

Finally Dachinamurthy underwent cataract surgery at SNJCOC on both his eyes and his vision showed a remarkable improvement. Now he buys flowers from Tiruvallur, which is around 15kms. away and runs his sister's business of selling flower garlands at the same Perambakkam bus stand. He is very happy at his new found vision and economic independence. He promises to motivate and send people regularly to the outreach camp at Perambakkam. Our job here is done! |
