Greetings Friends,
The Irrukam outreach camp was a novel and gratifying experience for the MFV team in Chennai and the rest of us. This lends more strength to our efforts towards eradicating avoidable blindness across India.
In Q1, two new programmes started — Mission Roshni focusing on paediatric eye health with Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye and ENT Hospital in Uttar Pradesh and a further expansion into the Northeast for primary eye healthcare with the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital in Arunachal Pradesh.
This year, we plan to address gaps in partners’ programmes. For example, in addition to surgeries, we will also focus on community mobilisation at the Synod Hospital in Mizoram and Society for Promotion of Eye Care and Sight (SPECS) in Meghalaya. Considering the arduous geographical terrain we often work with, reaching out to communities with even the most basic of eye
screening programmes is a difficult task.

Also, in this quarter, financial appraisals for some of our current partners were conducted, as also pre-partnership assessment for initiation of projects in Manipur and Tripura.
The Annual Community Impact Assessment report for 2014-15 has been shared with the partners. It shows that 91 per cent of patients who underwent treatment now have good (6/6 - 6/18) vision.
Vision 2020’s 11th annual conference saw MFV's participation with a presentation on 'Leadership: Building Systems' and a paper on 'Quality of life and post-operative care given to cataract patients'.
