Between January and March 2016, we surveyed nearly 3600 eyes. 56% of the people screened were women and 44% were men.
Mission for Vision is the only eye care organisation in India that conducts a socio-economic impact assessment of patients who have undergone eye surgery. Approximately, 6 months after sight restoring surgery, MFV's social workers visit randomly selected patients to gauge visual acuity as well as patient satisfaction with the services availed.
Over and above, MFV's social workers also assess 100% of the pediatric (children's) cases as well as some of the more complex cases that fall into a 'must review' category like primary or secondary interocular cancers, interocular melanoma or patients who are dependent on only one eye.

World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines state that 80% of the patients should fall under good visual acuity category with available correction and 90% patients should fall under good category with best correction.

8% of all blindness is caused by undetected or untreated glaucoma. It is described as the 'silent blinding disease' as it can progress without any obvious warning symptoms to the patient. Once Glaucoma fully sets in, it is mostly irreversible.
A routine and regular eye examination, especially as one gets older, can catch glaucoma early and help prevent it.
