Dear Friends,
In this edition of 'Dhrishti', our newsletter, I share with you highlights from a memorable quarter. Our partnership with LVPEI expanded even further with the inauguration of the third secondary eye care centre in Odisha. We also entered into two significant partnerships to take primary eye care to different parts of India – with the Fullerton India Credit Company Limited and SABIC.
World Sight Day 2015 was commemorated in October with a mega eye screening event in the Cricket Club of India premises in keeping with our belief that avoidable blindness can be prevented with timely detection and care. Events were also organised in other parts of the country.

“They See, They Learn” programme in Bangalore (rural) was initiated on 27th November, 2015 with the support of SABIC to provide comprehensive eye care to school children. This initiative is being directly implemented by us, Mission for Vision, with technical support from our partner - Sankara Eye Hospital as part of our wider Mission Roshni initiative geared to eradicate avoidable blindness among children. Through this project, the team aims to reach out to over 3,500 children. Students identified with refractive error are provided spectacles and those requiring further detailed check-up and intervention are sent to the Sankara Eye Hospital for diagnosis and treatment. We also completed a photo-documentation of our reach into the north-eastern region of India covering Assam and Meghalaya. The photographer, Nilanjan Basu writes about his experiences of our work, of the remoteness of the villages and of the people
here.
In this quarter, we have surveyed nearly 2672 eyes. As always our Community Impact Assessment done six months after surgery, amongst randomly selected patients shows that 90% of them have visual acuity in the good (6/6 – 6/18) category.
Do write to me with your suggestions and feedback at ekurian@missionforvision.org.in.Thank you for your constant encouragement and support. We would not be able to progress without it.
Regards,
Elizabeth Kurian
