Dear Friends,
The third quarter has been eventful and active for us, at MFV. We started the period in October, with a string of awareness activities on the occasion of World Sight Day on 13th October, 2016.
Mumbai: MFV organized an eye screening camp for the Thane Police department in collaboration with Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital. Around 287 staff and family members were screened for eye conditions and counselled on further treatment as required.

Kolkata: A mobile display unit was taken around the city to create awareness on the importance of eye healthcare. It stopped in areas near the Vision Centres (VC) supported by MFV so people could be informed and directed to the VCs for free eye screening. |
Meerut: Under the MFV partnered Mission Roshni project, a rally and awareness talk on eye care was organised with school children. The talk was conducted in a school where 334 children were screened and counselled about appropriate eye-care measures.

The Fullerton India Credit Company Limited (FICCL) has extended its support to Mission for Vision by supporting a Vision Centre at Vyara in Gujarat. It was inaugurated on October 21st, 2016. Divyajyoti Trust is MFV's partner running the tele-ophthalmology linked vision centre, aimed at providing quality eye care to the large tribal population in the area. To mark the inauguration an eye screening camp was organised where over 180 people from nearby villages were screened for probable eye conditions. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Amol Bhalerao – VP, CSR and Mr. Rakesh Patel (State Business Head – Gujarat) from FICCL; Trustees from Divyajyoti Trust, Janak Smarak Hospital; Dr. Yogesh Shah (Treasurer of All India Ophthalmic Society and eminent ophthalmologist from Mumbai), Mr. L K Jain – the Site Director, Kakrapur Atomic Centre and team members from MFV.
A team represented MFV at the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness' (IAPB) 10th General Assembly (GA) in Durban, South Africa from 27th to 30th October, 2016. Two posters were presented:
(1) Mission Roshni and the impact of the project in the community and
(2) The Role of Eye health workers in ensuring last mile connectivity of eye health to some of the remotest corners in North East India.
Additionally, the Head – Programme Impact at MFV also made an oral presentation on the Impact of Work and Quality of Life Study undertaken by MFV across India which shows how surgery uniquely affects the life of people in the community.
The General Assembly gave the MFV team an opportunity to learn about new approaches, methodologies, challenges and also provided MFV an opportunity to network with some of the leading organisations and individuals in the area of eye health from across the globe.
IAPB had organised a photo-competition prior to the General Assembly which culminated in Durban. Of a total of 1073 photographs submitted by organisations worldwide, 122 were selected as Editors' picks. Of these 122 selected images, 6 were from MFV. Of these 6 images from MFV, one of them bagged the Runner's Up (Amateur Category) prize. |
